Saturday 26th June - walk ***** - Levington circuit – sunny and hot.

We learned that the Classic Yachts were racing from Levington Marina this weekend and were keen to see them set off so packed our breakfast heading over to park up at our windsurfing launch beach arriving at 9 in perfect time see the lovely old boats head out in wall to wall sunshine with a nice breeze too:) We made a small detour enroute to check out Langer Park near Lidl which after last evenings torrential rain had turned into a lake, there were several road flooded last night, we have never seen rain like it!
The noisy Oyster Catchers are still nesting on the marina entrance plus a few cormorants flying past and a busy Little Grebe fishing as the tide came in, so we were well entertained as we had our breakfast with magic view over the Orwell as the fleet of old boats sailed to Harwich for the start of the race as the Stenna Ferry headed out! Then set off on our walk at ten heading first to the 5-star toilets and back to the river path through the trees with Nightingales singing. It is very pretty walking the banks of the Orwell and soon spotted some deer in the distance in a wheat field:) The path was surprisingly mud free as we reached the small lake with a couple of egrets past some pretty dog roses reaching Levington Creek with hardly any water and a pair of swans. Then taking a right we crossed the duckboards through the reds with a few deer in the big tree field! Back around the creek in an egret up a dead tree and a noisy Red Shank on a post. It was fairly quiet with only a few people out walking as we covered a little over three miles. Back at the van we had another cuppa as an old barge headed out before returning home via Lidl to stock up. Yummy ham and cheese roll in the garden, then exercises and relax despite some noisy neighbours having a get together a couple of doors up:(
Tomorrow is looking promising for a sail on the Stour, sadly I have not sorted out my broken foil and board yet so hope to take the longboard out for the first time in well over a year, perhaps sail up and see if I can spot the classic yachts again!
